Louise Amstrup Spring 2009

Sep 20

This monday I had a 4 am wakeup call to make my way to On/Off located at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Louise Amstrup was showcasing her second collection for London Fashion Week. This season Louise’s inspiration was taken from the 1984 cult classic film ‘Paris, Texas’ directed by Wim Wenders. Inspired by the aloof and mysterious lead female character, Jane Henderson and by the striking cinematography of bleak deserts, dry, alien landscapes strewn with peeling advertisement billboards, neon signs and rusting iron carcasses, Louise produces a signature collection of contradictions. Fusing feminine elements of draped delicate silks with powerful structured tailoring the end result was an impressive contemporary showing.

Also here is the video from her show.

I haven’t yet seen Paris, Texas but it looks great and I love the screen stills I have seen and the poster!

I’ve had the lovely opportunity to work with Louise Amstrup over the last few months. Louise, who began her career studying with designers such as Alexander McQueen and Sofia Kokosalaki is now on her seventh season and is starting to gain a reputation in name and brand. Her collection, which comprises of beautifully tailored jackets and edgy but feminine dresses will be shown at The West Room September 15th. If you are in the London area this is a fashion show that isn’t to be missed.

Spring Fashion Week 2009

Sep 11

Wow September already?! While in London it may already feel like Winter is right around the corner Spring 2009 in full swing in fashion venues througout New York. Optimism seems to be the theme this season as brightly coloured prints and pastels sashay down the catwalk, details frivilous and girly. I just love the dusty rose and cotton candy coloured turquoise of the outfits below. Top row Matthew Williamson. Bottom row Nanette Lepore.

New Sketches

Sep 07

Here are some sketches I have made in the last couple of days. I have been experimenting with varoius styles lately. The first one is an image inspired by Sunao Kuwahara carnival themed collection. The horse is from my head, it has been a long long time since I have drawn horses but it used to be all I drew back when I was a child. The second is another sketch of Nicole.
