Fashion Plate – Regency Spencer Jacket

Study on Regency era Spencer jacket.  This jacket was designed by famed costume designer Alexandra Byne for the 2020 movie Emma based on Jane Austen’s novel of the same name. I wanted to study the jacket for its beautiful depiction of Rouleaux trim, a popular embellishment of this era created by making bias strip tubing of the same fabric and hand-stitched on the garment in beautiful patterns.  The sleeves are also an amazing embellishment itself using a design known as dagging which is a triangle shaped jagged trim.
